What a whirlwind the past couple of months have been for my family and I. We recently closed on our first home and now we’re in the process of remodeling the kitchen and family room. Meanwhile I’m also 7 months pregnant and taking care of a 1-year-old. We sure picked an interesting time to take on a big project like this. One day we will look back and laugh!!
Our home was built in the 80s and the kitchen had not been touched since then. It needed some tender love and care to say the least. The kitchen was a galley style kitchen so we decided to knock out a couple of walls to make it open concept. Once we did, the whole house felt bigger. I knew with having little ones in the house I wanted to be able to have eyes on them at all times.
We also decided to update the kitchen completely with new cabinets, appliances, sink, hardware, backsplash. You get the picture. Remodeling a kitchen is quite the undertaking. Thankfully we’ve had tremendous support from family and friends during this process.
Below is a picture of the old kitchen. Like I said, straight from the eighties, LOL. I was not a fan of the galley kitchen from the beginning and knew if this home had potential we would have to put some work into bringing it up to date.
What I envision for our new kitchen is to be light and airy with warm earth tones and mixed metals. I love the vibe it creates in a room and wanted to try and create that as much as possible.
I wanted to share my vision for the kitchen by creating this mood board. I’m thinking white shaker cabinets with brass hardware, stainless steel appliances and a farmhouse sink with a chrome bridge faucet. Creamy white quartzite countertops and shiplap island with cabinets underneath to allow for more storage. While incorporating woven wood barstools and fun take on traditional subway tile.
This kitchen project has been so much fun for me, because I love designing and creating inviting spaces in my home and this one is no exception. If you see something you like, I’ve included links to all the items below. Reach out if you have any questions.
